The wide gap of the door hinge on the push side of the door is by far the most common area where fingers become trapped due to the ease of accessibility for digits into this space.

The narrow gap on the pull side of the door can also present its own danger point. It can sometimes be neglected when it comes to safety proofing the door. One reason some may decide not to cover the pull side is if the door is in the corner of a room and it opens against a wall perpendicular (approx 90 degrees) to it, as opposed to a door positioned in the middle of a wall where it opens a full half circle (180 degrees) or more, and it can be assumed to be just as easy to trap fingers into that narrow gap as it is in the wide gap on the push side.
